The Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary is the oldest and most important monument in Kalabaka, located in the old town at the foot of the Meteora rocks. Dating back to the early Christian and Byzantine period (4th–11th century), it is a three‑aisled basilica with impressive stone masonry, rare frescoes from the 11th and 16th centuries, and a unique marble pulpit standing in the center of the nave.
